The 7th Annual Bookies Award Dinner, A Celebration of Books and the People Who Love Them,
benefiting Project Second Chance, The Contra Costa County Library adult literacy program, will be held on Thursday March 29th at the Lafayette Park Hotel. This year's special guest author is Lolly Winston. Her first novel, "Good Grief", was a New York Times best-seller, as was her second novel, "Happiness Sold Separately" published in August 2006.
Tickets are $50 each and include admission, dinner, dessert and Rosenblum Cellars wines. They go on sale at Fremont Bank and can be purchased by phone, with a credit card, by calling 510-723-5810 Monday through Friday between 10am and 5pm or in person by visiting Fremont Bank at 1735 N. Broadway, in Walnut Creek, during regular business hours.
Over 35 different book club reading lists will be on display at the event. To ensure that your club's list is included, send the name of your group and the title and author of each book you read last year to <bookgal72@hotmail.com>.
New this year - a silent auction including tickets to the Contra Costa Times Book Club Gala, an evening with random House Book Rep. Ron Shoop, sailing lessons and a case of wine. In addition there will be an "After Party Coffee" at the Lafayette Book Store with 20% of all book sale proceeds being donated to Project Second Chance.
The evening will conclude with the announcement of the Book Club Book of the Year Award . The nominated titles are:
- Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See
- Any Bitter Thing by Monica Wood
- The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls
- Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen
- A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian by Marina Lewycka
