The Library provides a variety of computers and other equipment for our patrons:
Computers for Internet access are available in every library branch. See Frequently Asked Questions.
- Rules for Internet Use regulate allowable use of these computers.
- Computers may be used on a drop-in basis, or you can use the Computer Reservation system to reserve a computer in advance.
- You will need to login using your library card, and save your files before you logout.
- Computer classes are offered in several Library locations.
- The Pleasant Hill Computer Lab located at the Pleasant Hill Library has 20 computers for public use.
The Lab is open Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 5:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Wireless (wi-fi) "hotspots" have been created in all of our locations. This free service allows the public to use their laptop computers to connect to the Internet in the Library. Computers for word processing are available in all library locations. The software provided is Microsoft Office 2000, which includes Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. There is a charge of 10 cents per page for printing. Please bring a blank diskette or CD for saving your work, or they can be purchased in most libraries.
Electric typewriters are available in these library locations: Antioch, Brentwood*, Concord, El Sobrante, Orinda*, Pittsburg, San Pablo, San Ramon, and Ygnacio Valley. Typewriters may be used on a first come, first served basis. There is a fee of 50 cents for each 15 minutes, and payment can be made only in quarters. Please bring your own paper and correction fluid. (* Typewriters in Brentwood and Orinda are free of charge.) The Contra Costa County Law Library in Martinez also has typewriters for use at no charge.
Adaptive equipment to help people with disabilities use library resources is provided in several branches.
Microfilm and microfiche viewers are provided in the Pleasant Hill, Antioch, and Pinole (microfilm only) libraries. The viewers handle 16mm and 35mm microfilm reels and standard microfiche. Printing costs 15 cents/page and you must have exact change.
